Pichai puts RSI behind Google’s next AI push

The claim circulating on X has a real source: Google’s earnings-call transcript. What it establishes is narrower than an autonomous AI breakthrough.

In his 28 October earnings remarks, Sundar Pichai said AI was helping Google train and launch models faster. He attributed expected acceleration over the following year to RSI and said more efficient models were coming. This was a forward-looking statement, alongside the already announced Gemini 4 Carbon.

RSI means recursive self-improvement: an AI system contributes to improvements that can make subsequent improvements easier. The crucial question is how much of that loop works, and under whose supervision. Pichai’s remarks do not describe the loop, quantify its contribution or establish that it runs without people.

For readers following the next Gemini release, the useful lead is a faster development cycle and a promise of more efficient models. The transcript does not name a Carbon successor or give those models a launch date.
